Maltese Falcon

Successfully launched The Maltese Falcon, 88m clipper yacht

Perini Navi and Perini Istanbul – Yildiz Gemi, announce the launching of The Maltese Falcon, the most extraordinary yacht ever built – an 88m private sailing ship completely constructed in Turkey.

April 14th: launching operations were completed aboard a dry-dock, moored in the bay of Tuzla and gradually filled with salt water. The hull was then towed to the dock by two tugboats.

April 16th : attended by the yachts’ Owner, Perini Navi’s founder Mr. Fabio Perini, Mr. Baki Gökbayrak, Yildiz Gemi General Director and Mr. Giancarlo Ragnetti, Perini Navi CEO, a party was given to congratulate and thank the workers and subcontractors of Yildiz Gemi and all the other members of The Maltese Falcon Team for their commitment and accomplishment.

With three unprecedented rotating masts and 2,400 square metres of sail area, The Maltese Falcon will have unrivalled performance and sailing agility thanks to the world’s most advanced sail handling systems developed by Perini Navi. This system will allow this sailing giant to be handled by one person when at sea.

Size, technology and design characterize the three key elements which distinguish The Maltese Falcon as a true revolution in sailing yachts.

The Maltese Falcon at 88m long, a displacement of 1,240 tonnes and draft of 6m will be the largest private sailing yacht in the world. With strikingly modern lines designed by Ken Freivokh she will not pass unnoticed!
Her three carbon fibre masts, manufactured and assembled at the Yildiz Gemi yard in Tuzla under the supervision of the English company Insensys are free-standing and rotating, an absolute world-first for an application of this size and complexity. Based on the DYNARIG square rig concept – developed with Gerard Dijkstra & Partners of Holland each mast carries five separate square sails.
The timetable for mast stepping is the end of April, followed by sea trials and delivery in early summer.
