Oceanco 90mt DAR



A group of journalists lingers over a sculptural bar, while a yard employee leads another wide-eyed writer past delicate leaf shapes traced in the floor of the light-filled spa, towards butterflies so vividly painted on the bathroom wall that they seem ready to fly away when the door opens. We’re exploring the treasure trove of details on the Oceanco DAR, showcased at the Monaco Yacht Show, and it is bewitching us. But there is one feature that stops everyone dead: the panorama of Monaco unfurling behind a glass wall.

The view dominates the upper saloon: tenders shuttling in and out of the port, white yachts in the packed marina, apartment blocks on the hillside and the blue sky above it all. Walking to the edge of the space and leaning against full-height glass produces the sensation of being suspended in mid-air. There is no distortion: it’s like we’re looking through sunglasses that enhance colours and reduce glare. To the outside world, however, the glass might as well be a magical cloak shrouding all that is within. Even with lights on, it is impossible to make out what is behind the glass from the outside.

“You can see Monaco, but Monaco can’t see you,” says Luiz de Basto, DAR’s designer. “The concept of the design is a completely connected interior and exterior.”
That immersive effect, that moment of surprise as the outside world pours in, the absence of boundaries between inside and out: de Basto had imagined it all eight years earlier while seated in his Miami office overlooking Biscayne Bay. His quest at the time was to design an 85-metre yacht that concealed its volume and decks within a shapely glass envelope that would give its owners what he says they value above all else: privacy.

“Glass was the main inspiration as a way to improve contact with nature,” he says. As he developed the idea further, he thought about one particular sea animal that eventually lent its name to the project. The shark.
“The association with the hammerhead shark jumped at me when I searched for a way to create wing stations. I’ve always been very interested in nature and the animal world, probably because of my childhood in Angola and early contact with the big outdoors,” he says.
Just as the hammerhead’s wide-set eyes give it exceptional vision, the shapely wing stations could enhance the captain’s ability to see down the long hull sides. He took his idea further. “If you look closely you see that the mast is like a dorsal fin. Everything sort of flowed from there,” he says. “In three or four pages, the yacht was born, almost like you see it here.”

Of course, it’s one thing to imagine and draw a concept; it’s quite another to bring to fruition a technically complex design such as this. The next step de Basto took was to show his idea to Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco. “I thought they would be the right match for this particular project, sportier and more unconventional than most and with lots of glass,” he says.

They had a meeting at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show a few weeks later. “We liked the overall design and the technical challenges associated with the project and started working on a design package together,” says Oceanco. The yacht grew a few metres to an even 90, but the integrity of the design remained. “We went to great lengths to keep the overall look, but also the details of his design. We remained faithful to the concept, which is strong and well thought out.”

One of the most complex aspects of the yacht was its most obvious feature – the seamless black glass that encloses the superstructure. “DAR has about 390 square metres of glass in the superstructure alone, not counting doors and hull windows. The glass panels are 1.8 metres by three metres each, glued to the aluminium superstructure with no mechanical fasteners,” says de Basto. Adding all of its windows and doors, the yacht carries about 22 tonnes of exterior glass, made by German glass maker TILSE, which developed a special sealant and glue that had to be approved by Lloyd’s. “Elaborate calculations were made to assess the interaction between glue, superstructure and glass, and to see the relative movement in a seaway to make sure the glue would be able to cope,” says Oceanco.

From a purely engineering point of view, this required a massive amount of work, which continued as construction began – once the concept had attracted the eye of a buyer.

The owners of the yacht that would eventually become DAR entrusted captain Klaudio Marcelic to make some inquiries on their behalf. The commercial team at Oceanco showed him the project they had been developing. Marcelic says he was attracted by the boat’s “clean and distinctive lines”, and in January 2014 he contacted Oceanco CEO Marcel Onkenhout. “Project Shark was outlined as we see it today from January to May and then presented to the client. The letter of intent was signed one month later,” Marcelic says.

A larger team, which now included the owner’s project manager and interior designer Valentina Zannier of Italian studio Nuvolari Lenard, went to work on fine tuning features to more precisely fit the owners’ requirements and ideas. All these needed to be incorporated within the design envelope that they really enjoyed, particularly, according to Oceanco, “the total black surface, the ‘hammerhead’ and the shark fin”.

Realising this smooth “total black” glass effect, so essential to the original design, was one of the greatest technical challenges. “The thickness of the glass varies with the location, but the heaviest is 30 millimetres and consists of three layers. In the superstructure above the main deck there are 186 windows. Of these windows, 112 are bent in one direction and 28 are double curved,” says Oceanco.

To create the look de Basto had designed, “the glass had to be in one flush surface from the main deck to the sundeck. To achieve this, a lot of special solutions had to be found, which included measuring the superstructure in 3D multiple times at different stages of the build,” says Martin de Jager, engineering project manager for Oceanco. “From this, a three-dimensional model was then developed that was used not only for the shape of every individual window but also for the thickness of the filler where painted surfaces adjoin the glass. Another challenge was where to route pipes and HVAC [heating, ventilation and air conditioning] ducts. With the large glass surfaces there was little room to place piping and ducting [near] the outside of the superstructure. Usually the underside of side decks can be used for ventilation grills. In the case of DAR [which has no walkarounds for the sake of privacy] this was not possible.”

Where did all the pipes and ducts go? “We’ve put them everywhere. If you open up the ceiling, it is completely full,” de Jager says. In spite of this, the ceiling height is never lower than 2.25 metres and reaches up to 2.4 metres in some areas.

Changes made to the original layout included the addition of a helideck and the relocation of the pool from one deck to another, a 1.6-metre-deep oval basin with a waterfall that retains its trajectory even as the yacht moves, a detail de Basto insisted upon. He designed all exterior decks, including folding carbon masts for umbrellas that complement the contours of the yacht when they are stored, and a huge sofa that seems to hover above the deck as it spins on a small axis to the sitter’s desired position.

The owner’s deck includes a completely private spa pool flanked by windows that reveal the world to the owners, but not the owners to the world.

Although two designers handled the treatment of the exterior and interior decks, the overall feeling remains surprisingly cohesive and relaxing throughout. The theme of nature, represented by the shark, continues inside. “The client brief was to have a comfortable, light and very bright interior, with no dark timbers and inspired by nature,” Zannier says.

Motifs of fish, leaves, olive trees, blossoms and waves are cleverly integrated in a wide variety of materials, from paint to plaster, carved leather, engraved glass and embroideries. Linen is used in an unusual way, substituted for joinery on doors and drawers. Wood is used sparingly and when it is, it is mainly light-hued timber with an unusual finish, sycamore dyed grey, maple veneer steamed and bent into curves to form a floor detail, a little dark veneer used to contrast with limed ash.

Zannier says she is particularly fond of the staircase that wraps around the lift, which is finished in antiqued bronze – buttons and control panel included – and features a decorative glass panel as flooring. Along the wall a school of fish in Venetian plaster winds its way up the stairs, one of several pieces made by DKT Artworks. Tiny details are everywhere, including drops of resin mimicking water droplets on a window sill.

It all looks so effortlessly elegant. However, “with 120 different fabrics, 24 saddle leathers and a variety of artistic finishes and glass the interior was very complex to execute,” says Oceanco. The task of outfitting this intricate interior went to List General Contractor and Sinnex.

On the technical side, the yacht is just as impressive, fitted with a full Dynamic Positioning system and a classed integrated bridge. Its enormous garage accommodates a pair of 10.5-metre custom tenders, one open and the other a limo, built by Hodgdon Yachts in Maine.

The long foredeck conceals crew tenders and a telescopic mast, and is large enough for a helicopter to land and take off. The owners did not want teak, and de Basto opted for a grey paint that is cohesive with the overall colour scheme and does not create glare. The yacht also carries a built-in slide that deploys for a vertiginous drop from on high.

This enormous project now complete, de Basto delights in sharing the details. “I am glad to see it built and so close to the original sketches. That is amazing because of the many pressures any design of this size is subjected to from all sides during the construction process. Those pressures can derail an innovative, non-conventional design very quickly,” he says. When he walked on to the yacht for the first time, de Basto says it was like he was entering his sketch. It’s a grand design that has become an even grander reality.

“DAR’s exterior aft decks exemplify a relaxed and sophisticated yachting lifestyle,” says designer Luiz de Basto, who decided to locate the guest spaces aft. DAR has three distinct exterior decks and each one is a spectacular feature in itself. The primary outside social space is on the upper deck, which is divided into two areas: the al fresco dining area and the pool area.

The former is finished in pale-toned, easy-to-care-for Lapitec tile flooring, perfect for casual entertaining. The dining table, which seats 12 comfortably, has an unusual design feature. Its centre, made of glass and lit with LEDs, can be lowered with a remote control to create space for decorations or for ice to keep champagne, caviar or oysters chilled. In the other portion of the deck, the lap pool is raised above the deck to keep young children from falling in and provides comfortable seating for adults watching over them. A stabilised waterfall splashes into the pool from the deck above, creating a lovely ambience but also acting as a privacy curtain, shielding the pool from the dining area. The bulwarks, built in continuous glass, act as wind breakers while allowing for beautiful views. The umbrellas to port and starboard are designed to fit the deck perfectly. They don’t need to be dismounted and stowed – they pivot and lower to fit alongside the bulwarks until they’re needed again.

Oceanco 106mt Black Pearl



It is fair to say that all superyacht projects around the 100-metre mark range possess a certain amount of innovation and even a few never-before-seen features that set them apart. The words ‘innovative’, ‘ground-breaking’, and perhaps even ‘iconic’ are often used to describe these projects. For one owner, this level of distinction was simply not good enough, and with a clear concept in mind that was inspired by the famous Maltese Falcon, set out to create what the superyacht world has been missing up till now. What follows are the events of how a talented group of designers and a shipyard, personally lead by a motivated and foresightful owner, came to create what will undoubtedly go down as one of the industry’s most defining projects.

When Ken Freivokh Design was contracted to take responsibility for the design and styling work on 7 July 2010, it would be the beginning of a process that would push boundaries in every area of the yacht, from her extraordinary rig to her cutting-edge power systems, green technologies, and futuristic styling details. the result would be a 96m preliminary design, codenamed nautilus, bearing the distinctive DynaRig across three free-standing masts – an outward sign of the advanced nature of the concept whose core delivers evolution and revolution in equal measure.

Given their experience with the Maltese Falcon project and the development of the DynaRig concept, it was only natural that Freivokh would introduce the Dykstra Naval Architects team to the owner, and to Nautilus. the partnership would prove highly advantageous – with the owner seeking to push both the boundaries and the technology far beyond what the Maltese Falcon project had achieved, the Dykstra team’s expertise would be critical in refining and further advancing the DynaRig system. This was redesigned to improve performance through changes both to mast shape and installation.

As the preliminary concept, preliminary design, design development and the first stage of detailed design neared completion in the Ken Freivokh Design (KFD) studios, KFD commissioned Devonport yachts (Pendennis shipyard) in the south-west of the UK to undertake a technical study of the yacht in order to complete the tendering package. The tendering process began in June 2011 through seven leading shipyards in both northern and southern Europe, and the US.

By November 2011, the Freivokh design team had extended the design from 96m to 100m, and a scale model was produced from the plans, fully machined with a CNC lathe. As Oceanco was selected for the build, in 2012 Nuvolari Lenard – who had worked with Oceanco on several previous superyacht builds – joined the team for the build of Freivokh’s Nautilus design, and influenced a handful of styling tweaks, notably the three elliptical hull windows, and elements of the superstructure including further development of the original distinctive arches.

The hull design continued to evolve, with heavy input from the owner, as various studies by the Freivokh team on the bow shape led to refinements borne from essential technical requirements. It was by the owner’s own hand that these modifications gradually evolved into the distinctive overhang-to-reverse bow concept that graces the final 106m design iteration of the nautilus concept, which would be built as project Y712 and named Black Pearl.

For the interior, while the KFD studio had created the framework and the layout, the owner worked closely with designer Gerard Villatte to develop the essential style and the detailed treatment of surfaces.

As the project nears completion, and with Ken Freivokh design – as per contract – overseeing the final stages of the build since April 2016, following completion of Nuvolari Lenard’s involvement, it is already clear that Black pearl has far exceeded the expectations of all those involved in her original concept development. not just in terms of style – creating an Avant-garde giant sailing yacht was a given, particularly with the second generation DynaRig – but also in terms of the technology, methodology and rationale behind every aspect of her systems and operation. As she undergoes sea trials and prepares for the final detailing before her summer delivery, Black Pearl will not be a yacht to lie in the shadow of the project that inspired her, but rather will be the project to show how evolved design can pay homage to and surpass that which has gone before.

CRN 55mt Atlante



Atlante was designed by the Italian design studio Nuvolari Lenard. The naval architecture was done by the CRN in-house engineering team.

Atlante’s strong and sharp exterior design was inspired by military vessels. She has 5 decks and a beam of 10.20m. She reaches a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots with her twin 1230 KW Caterpillar diesel engines.

“Launching a new yacht is always a moment of great pride for the entire Shipyard as emotions go hand in hand with the satisfaction of knowing that each and every one of our products is going to represent our brand and Made-in-Italy yachting across the world’s seas. Spanning over five spacious decks, super yacht ATLANTE is run by twin 1230 KW @ 1800 RPM CATERPILLAR diesels, delivering a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots.

Palmer Johnson 49mt Khalilah



The boat in question is not part of the showcase event but her abstract sculptural quality, her golden pearlescent finish and black radar arch make Khalilah indisputably the star attraction – even tied up at a private home on the Indian Creek Waterway, a stone’s throw from the show. Craft of all sorts mill about as passengers crane their necks for a better look at the gleaming, golden goddess.

One man is keeping his cool amid all the hullabaloo. Timur Mohamed, owner of the iconic American boatbuilder Palmer Johnson (PJ), which has produced the 49 metre SuperSport Khalilah, seems to be half-expecting the acclaim and attention when I join him on board. “This,” says Mohamed, sweeping a hand towards the huge aft deck by way of explanation, “is what this is all about.”

Her goldness is not what sets Khalilah apart. Nor is the fact that Khalilah’s the largest private yacht built entirely in carbon composite. Rather, it’s that amazing aft deck, formed by its 11 metre beam. “This yacht has the beam of a 70 metre,” he says proudly.

And Mohamed can rightly feel proud, knowing as he does the amount of effort and the degree of innovation that has gone into creating this new SuperSport series. It has been under development since 2010, when Mohamed came across a concept to serve as the starting point for a yacht to shake things up, in what he considers the conservative world of yachting. It came courtesy of a designer called Berkeley March, a finalist in Boat International’s 2008 Young Designer of the Year awards, who had recently started working for Palmer Johnson.

What Mohamed wanted was a yacht without compromise and, with March’s design, he had it. “We wanted to tick all the boxes of what owners want,” Mohamed says. “The design intent had a clear and bold goal from the start: to create superyachts that did not compromise speed, efficiency, comfort and space. Once we had exterior elements we liked, along with the new hull form, the next [goal] was that design, technology and performance had to be woven seamlessly into the essence of the yacht. We were aiming to capture the hearts and imagination of the discerning and knowledgeable.”

The first designs were produced in late 2011. A contract for the first yacht came a few months later. “It was a high-risk project,” says Mohamed, who admits he likes just this sort of challenge. A second hull, which was sold earlier this year, is under construction.

“Innovative is when you change something fundamental,” Mohamed says. And this first SuperSport vessel did just that: a displacement yacht with no fin- or gyro-stabilisers, capable of reaching 30 knots and of providing the space of a multihull. “Thirty knots on a displacement hull simply does not happen,” he asserts. In February, shortly before heading to Florida, the yacht’s GPS registered 29.9 knots. Further fine-tuning inevitably followed.

Palmer Johnson, founded in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, in 1918, long before its expansion into Monaco a few years ago, is no stranger to innovation. In the 1960s, the yard began building fast sailing yachts in aluminium. It expanded into the superyacht market, where it carved its niche with alluring and sporty yachts developed in co-operation with Italian design firm Nuvolari Lenard.

It was the company’s SportYacht series, launched in the mid-2000s, that first caught the attention of Mohamed. The first PJ120, Cover Drive, was built for him. “It’s all part of the PJ story,” he says. “From Fortuna (a 30.5 metre built in the late 1970s for King Juan Carlos of Spain) to the SportYachts to the SuperSport series, PJ has always bred performance yachts with dynamic styling ahead of the market.”

It helps that the builder has like-minded clients. Palmer Johnson built the first SuperSport for a repeat customer who, in 2007, took delivery of another head turner: the golden, Nuvolari Lenard-designed 46 metre named O’Khalila (now Skyfall II). Unlike her predecessor, which was built in aluminium, Khalilah is entirely carbon composite: carbon fibre sandwich and vinylester.

Khalilah oozes the best of automotive styling with a soupçon of later-generation Palmer Johnson genes. On the water the 49 metre, despite her wide body aft, is sleek and sporty, with a long foredeck ending in what appears to be a reverse bow. Above deck, nothing is revealed: no tenders or cranes, no anchors, winches or mast clutter that foredeck; there is no towering superstructure, as Palmer Johnson eschewed such features many years ago. A wave-piercing element designed to part the water is visible only below the surface. Waves may rise occasionally to the level of side deflectors that also serve as interesting styling elements.

Seen from land, Khalilah offers a very different perspective and reveals her imposing scale. But even as Khalilah towers above, when you stand quayside (she is 16 metres tall from the waterline to the top of the mast), little prepares you for the space that she offers. The aft main deck sits on top of the widest part of the hull, courtesy of two sponsons that are designed to give stability. On closer inspection these thin appendages have doors built right above them to allow the crew to unload tenders and toys.

Seen from the inside, they expand the storage space significantly. Twin side garages, one with a fuelling station, hold a seven metre tender and three jet skis, and frame a large beach club protected from the elements by a wide glass door. With at least three functions, the sponsons are an integral part of the design and, when Khalilah is at anchor, they contribute to the feeling of space on board.

The aft deck’s size – 110 square metres – is closer to the space you’d expect on a multihull. Compounding the effect of that 11 metre beam, and the almost 12 metres from the transom to the saloon door, is the extensive use of glass, which opens up views everywhere you look. Seated or sprawled on the large outside banquette, or lying on enormous sunpads, you still enjoy uninterrupted views. Shapely railings support glass panels that break the wind effectively but don’t spoil the view.

More glass is inset in the carbon supports framing the main deck’s outdoor dining area, with the largest panes found forward at the main saloon level. “They are the biggest glass panels aside from Steve Jobs’s boat [Venus],” says Mohamed.

Each panel framing the superstructure at the saloon’s level measures 6.6 by 2.2 metres. Palmer Johnson worked with New Zealand glass specialist Glasshape, which made and installed the specially formulated DuraShield Marine Glass. Each window panel comprises two layers of laminated glass, with an interlayer of resin that helps refract heat. One-inch thick (26mm), each panel weighs more than one tonne. “They are the largest windows installed on a superyacht in the United States,” says Andrew Forrest, who heads the Glasshape North America office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Thanks to the slender naval architecture and carbon composite construction (which represents a weight saving of about 20 tonnes according to PJ’s own estimation), the SuperSport 48 requires relatively modest power to reach her noteworthy top speed of 32 knots. The engines are twin 16V MTU diesel M94s from the 2000 series, with a maximum 5,200hp output. As a result, total consumption at top speed is about 1,000 litres per hour. Consumption, says the captain who took the yacht from Wisconsin to Florida via Montreal, goes down significantly with speed. With an extra tank extending capacity up to 41,600 litres, and a consumption of 159 litres per hour, the yacht has transatlantic range at about 15 knots.

To build Khalilah entirely in carbon composite, Palmer Johnson selected a Norwegian shipyard well-versed in the material. Brødrene Aa, which specialises in fast ferries, built the first DNV-approved vessel in GRP sandwich panels in the 1970s and a few well-known yachts marketed under the Norship name, including the 36.5 metre Moonraker, once the world’s fastest yacht, in the early 1990s.

The assembled hull and superstructure, with engines and drives in place, made their way from Norway to Wisconsin in late 2013, and the PJ craftsmen installed the mechanics, electronics, a complex network of lights and built the custom interior to the owner’s requirements.

This owner wanted a simple but playful interior. A spiral of LED lights inset in the ceiling above the entrance foyer, a glass octopus, and low-lying colourful seats on top of wide-beam parquet flooring set the tone. But it is not long before the eyes wander towards the floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the saloon.

PJ’s standard layout calls for a larger main saloon, a galley down and a palatial master suite sprawling full-beam forward on the main deck.Khalilah has a different layout, according to her owner’s wishes. The galley, a contemporary and alluring space with windows, stainless steel appliances and lacquered orange cabinets, looks as though it came from a Boffi showroom but was designed and built in-house. It was installed on the main deck at the owner’s request. Two similar-sized owner’s suites occupy the space forward, benefiting from great views through vertical portholes.

The guest cabins, including a comfortable VIP, are on the lower deck. Each has a different colour scheme, highly personalised décor and beautiful marble and colourful mosaics in the showers. The crew cabins (four twins and one single for the captain) are forward of a pleasant crew mess. A clever use of skylights allows light to stream belowdecks and the space is both practical and comfortable.

The pilothouse, up a few steps from the main deck, mirrors the progressive styling of the yacht herself. The modern bridge at the centre of it all was designed, assembled and built at Palmer Johnson, with control panels from Praxis Automation Technology. The wide windscreen offers a surprisingly good view despite the pronounced slant. A second, smaller helm station, or “skybridge”, is on the sundeck above. Modern Edge, an industrial design company based in Portland, Oregon, worked with Palmer Johnson on the design of this stainless steel and GRP console, which fits perfectly with the yacht’s exterior styling and integrates neatly with the Praxis control panels. Wing stations are on fold-out balconies, usually framed by removable stanchions and rails. Like many of this yacht’s design features, they are revealed only on closer inspection.

Khalilah does have a forward navigation mast, but it disappears into the bowels of the vessel when not in use. The only indication of something there is the round shape of the teak detail forward of the sunpads. A system brings the mast up from below. Opening the trap and descending a rather steep ladder reveals a massive and perfectly finished mooring room where several crew can stand fully erect to supervise docking operations. Two anchors drop vertically from the bottom of that room, a system the yard chose to avoid unsightly anchor pockets that distract from the styling.

Practicality dictated most of the choices that the yard made on the technical side, from the sound damping material (Dynamat, a product commonly used in automotive and architectural applications) to the fixed Kohler generators and the conventional diesel power plant included. Most, but not all, of course. When you seek to provoke an emotional reaction and create a strong attachment from an owner to his or her yacht, the details count.

The owner of Khalilah clearly has a thing for gold, which is found at the heart of the engine room as a custom finish on the two MTU engine blocks. Gold suggests glamour and confidence but also courage and passion. It took all of that to imagine and build the first SuperSport. Now let’s hope the golden Khalilah will also mean prosperity for this forward-thinking US yacht builder.

Lürssen Yachts 85 mt Quattroelle


Quattroelle was delivered in January 2013 and has a length of 86,11 metres. She is designed for extensive and extended cruising and with her long range she requires only a few stops in ports. Quattroelle is Italian for "4 times the letter L" and the 4 L's stand for Love, Life, Liberty and Luxury. These four key words express what this jewel of a yacht means to the owner.


Quattroelle is the first Lürssen yacht designed by Nuvolari&Lenard, who were responsible for the exterior as well for the interior design.

Knowing the owner very well, and since long time, allowed us to tailor design this yacht following precisely his personality and I have no doubt that he will recognize himself, when looking to this ship”

She is a successful combination of elegance and sporty and she looks well on her way to become a Classic. The size of the yacht with its massive volumes was a challenge, but with careful volume distribution and a study of proportion, Nuvolari&Lenard nonetheless achieved a sleek appearance of the yacht. The funnel design reminds us of the air scoop of a formula one car and with its inverted shape creates the distinctive silhouette of Quattroelle. Her six decks offer her 12 guests enormous space for both entertainment and relaxation.
The interior can best be described as "eclectic contemporary". The comfortable feeling comes from a balanced connection between tradition and the best use of the decorative materials that Europe has to offer. The whole interior is customized, from pieces of furniture, hardware to lighting, combining a sophisticated palette of woods, stones and fabrics. “The interior has been designed keeping in mind the request of having wood as dominant material but not necessarily a Classic interior”, Arch. Valentina Zannier, interior designer at Nuvolari Lenard comments. “The modern approach, with original design elements, prevails on the classicism which is only a starting point which we used to develop the style. The materials are rich, the finishing is sophisticated but never excessive or vulgar”.

When entering Quattroelle through the main entrance into the wood and marble floored foyer you instantly get the feeling of a classic yacht. The foyer provides a very impressive staircase as well as an elevator, which accesses all decks from lower deck to bridge deck, and a day head. The gorgeous bronze handmade balustrade is an impressive feature perfectly matching the dynamic and fluid spirit of the interior throughout the boat.

Aft of the foyer, guests directly enter the formal dining salon, which offers seated dining for 16 but which can also be enlarged up to 20 guests. To enjoy the panoramic view while having a dinner, the outer bulwarks in way of the dining room are designed as outboard folding flaps. The dining room can be completely separated from the main salon and library which are further aft. The chandelier is a piece of art as well as the table. The dining table combines a weavy metal panel, engraved with a thick glass top. Its depth captures the light of the beautiful chandelier above.

The patterns in the carpet are repeated in the fabrics of the wall and the chairs. The side wall which separates the dining room from the library is covered by leather, of which an artist has incised floral pictures.

The library and formal main salon offer enormous space for their guests with different comfortable couches and chairs in warm brown, beige and blue colours. Pieces of furniture are executed with a sharp eye for detail and finish, from the blue artglass, to the curved and bold shapes of the joinery.

Forward of the foyer two doors lead into the cinema's lobby and then further forward to the guest lobby. The cinema is the ideal place for relaxing while watching a movie and offers space for all the guests.

The main deck hosts 5 guest suites, of which three are large VIP suites. The VIP suites offer double beds and the other two guest suites offer twin beds which can also be converted into queen-size beds. The décor of each cabin is different but all is held in warm brown, beige and blue colours. The big advantage of having the guest cabins on the main deck instead of on the lower deck, as is done on many other yachts, is that it gives not only a better separation between guests and crew but it also allows for larger and nicer accommodation with very large windows allowing for lots of natural light.

Half of the upper deck is dedicated to the owner's area, which includes a private study, two children's' cabins, the owners' suite with his and her bathrooms and personal dressing rooms. The owners' suite offers spectacular panoramic views and a side door offers the possibility to walk outside to a cosy private seating area. The warm décor underlines the very convenient and contemporary overall look and makes one feel very comfortable indeed.

The space for his and hers bathrooms is sumptuous and offers in addition to a large shower, also a Jacuzzi. The walk-in wardrobe has the size of an extra cabin and offers great comfort. The outside forward deck is designed to be the Owners private area, separated by privacy doors on the exterior walkways on both sides, but can also be used as a helicopter deck.

Repeating the layout of the main deck a small lobby with day head leads aft from the foyer into the upper deck lounge. The lounge offers ample seating and relaxation areas with a large TV screen, bar, and a self-playing Steinway piano. The upper salon shows how the natural light coming from the exterior meets the earth colors of the interior materials, giving the whole room a cozy feeling.

The outside aft deck offers extra large spaces and different areas. Valentina Zannier comments: “The core of the day life will be the upper aft deck which brings a notable layout: The deck can be quickly enclosed by sliding and pivoting glass panels. The result is a very flexible space that fits either the Mediterranean climate in the all open situation or the more chilled situations the yacht may experience up north”

In addition to the state-of-the-art wheelhouse, the bridge deck houses a radio room and ship's office and captain's accommodation as well as a generous owner's private lounge, which is decorated in light tones.The outside aft deck hosts a large pool with jet flow, surrounded by comfortable sun beds and seating areas.

Stairways on both sides lead to the top deck, which offers a protected area for a gym including beauty and massage rooms as well as a sauna. Forward on the top deck is a Jacuzzi with a spectacular panoramic view and in connection with the sun beds which surround it, it is a perfect area for relaxation. Treated water for both the pool on the bridge and the Jacuzzi on top deck is stored in separate holding tanks with individual temperatures so that the pool and the Jacuzzi are ready for use on short notice.

Aft of the lower deck is the upper engine room as well as the enormous tender garage which hosts two Colombo/LT tenders,: one Limo tender and one open tender, both designed by Nuvolari & Lenard, which both can be launched sideways through the hull doors. In addition there is plenty space for any other kind of water sport equipment including a dedicated dive equipment room.

A watertight door leads into the beach club area which includes a day head, a changing room and a sofa area equipped with a TV. Leaving towards the aft through the stern door you are entering a bathing area with an enormously sized fold out bathing stair and can also be used as a pick-up point for guests.

The tank deck hosts plenty space for the crew including a crew mess, crew lounge and crew office. A suitably sized and perfectly laid out laundry and fridge and freezer rooms can be found on the tank deck as well.

The engine room is the heart of the yacht and a masterpiece of Lürssen engineering with polished stainless steel applications. Powered by 2 CAT engines of 2.000 kW each, she reaches a top speed of 17 knots and has a range of 6.000 nm. Elastically mounted equipment guarantee an extremely quiet running of the yacht and zero speed fin-stabilizers are reducing wave generated motions when at anchor.

For low emissions the auxiliary engine exhaust system is equipped with HUG particle filters and soot burners which are fully compliant with the current IMO air pollution requirements. The system provides excellent fuel efficiency as heat is not generated electrically but directly by burning spare fuel thus demanding less generator capacity.

Quattroelle is a family yacht built for pleasure, but above all other considerations, she is a yacht intended to be self-sufficient during extended voyages on the high seas and well equipped for whatever she may face.
