Musashi 88mt Feadship

Taking her name from one of the most famous samurais in Japanese history, this thoroughbred superyacht reflects one of her namesake's most unique qualities. Miyamoto Musashi not only was a highly skilled swordsman, even a sword saint, but he wisely also believed in the necessity to excel in fields such as sculpting and writing. Hence, the name Musashi stands for strength balanced with delicacy. 

As light and eye-catching as her exterior may be, as with all good design there is more to Musashi than meets the eye. With an LOA just shy of 88 metres, she embodies a unique style that is a direct result of the combined efforts between the highly skilled teams of De Voogt and Sinot. This uniqueness is what makes her instantly fascinating, combining a delightful sense of openness and a more subtle closeness within lines that are masculine and firm.

The yacht is all about detail. Sinot did not only create the entire guest interior, exterior and every piece of furniture, but also handpicked all of the loose item, such as the yacht’s porcelain and cutlery.

A key concept for the development of this vessel, was to provide both sublime luxury and privacy to the owner and his family and guests. One of many examples of this concept, is the application of exceptionally large windows, which create a luxurious inside-out feeling or provide a more intimate setting, if and when required.

As Sander Sinot points out, “the large windows flood the Musashi's interior spaces with abundant natural light.”This delicate sense of openness is enhanced by the long external walkways, allowing guests to seemingly seamlessly flow from inside to outside without ever losing that transcending sense of spaciousness. OnMusashi, space is all around, whenever you want it to be. 

A splendid eye for detail can be seen throughout the superyacht's decks, both inside and out. One key element of design at this level, is the way this attention for detail strives for perfection on the one hand, while on the other there is no addition of any purposeless details.

The grand windows guarantee ample amounts of natural light throughout Musashi's interiors. Combining comfort with optimal user-friendliness, the interior designers combined the refined lines from Japanese Design with elements from Art Deco. This, combined with fully custom designed furnishings and the application of the finest of materials, resulted in an interior design that is as remarkable as are her external features.

With the tranquil atmosphere that defines the entire yacht, special attention was paid to the design of the Owner's private quarters. With an intimate ambiance set in luxury and finesse, high quality materials were selected to create a design that transcends the mere materials and combines them, to form a homely and vibrant personal dwelling for the Owner.

With clean lines, the occasional subtly rounded edge, a refined lighting scheme and a colour palette that is based on natural anigree wood, creamy silks and stainless steal, the Owner's staterooms (both on the bridge and upper deck) feel grand yet modest, something characteristic that can be experienced throughout the whole of Musashi's appearance. Sander Sinot tells us that designers “strove to create an intimate, homely atmosphere where the owner could retreat.”

As for special features, this vessel offers plenty. The spacious upper-deck lounge is one of these, with the ability to accommodate a company of up to 18 guests, this area shows a darker, more intimate and richer character with generously sized, custom designed furniture. Comfort was constantly kept in mind, with the furniture being extremely comfortable despite their geometrical shape. With a grand dining table, various lush seating arrangements, dramatically large windows around, this space, like so many others on board, oozes stylish comfort from every pore. Effortlessly flowing from inside to the aft deck, al fresco dining, cocktails and lounging are just some of countless possibilities to be enjoyed here, submerged in homely privacy. 

Connecting all decks internally, the central hallway offers a memorable feature with a stairway consisting of steps made out of several layers of compressed glass encompassed by a stainless steel casing. High levels of transparency were maintained throughout these spaces, despite the glass elevator by Lift-Emotion spanning three decks. On a vessel like this, it undoubtedly evokes great anticipation to discover where those steps might lead you next.

Perhaps it might be the cinema lounge, which is fully equipped and offers a sublime audiovisual experience for guests, with double loungers that can excellently be used as daybeds when this area serves as a lounge.

Every guest cabin on board is about comfort, with space and daylight as top priorities. Designed in Musashi's signature style of tranquillity and luxury, these staterooms offer oversized beds, large en suite bathrooms and such amenities like 65-inch television screens. As with all of Musashi's spaces, exceptional levels of detail are the key to success in these luxurious guest cabins that offer rest and relaxation for every guest on board. For each spacious bathroom, a simple motto seemed to have been sufficient for the design process, namely 'bathing'. Not only bathing in the most conventional sense, but also bathing in natural light, space and, more importantly, bathing in luxury. With a rich application of light woods and delicate lighting, Musashi transforms bathing into an art form. Combined with a fully equipped sauna, spa and gym area, one might find it easy to forget that the outside has so much to offer as well.

Externally, Musashi's sharply yet delicately designed decks offers guests a splendor of space. The main aft deck offers a grand external storage for the vessel's two large tenders. The upper aft deck supplies guests with ample opportunity for lounging and al fresco dining. Fore, a generously sized cockpit assures assures guests the possibilities of relishing the surroundings; space, views, a breeze and the sun. And for cooling down, a large Jacuzzi, also one of the yacht's notable pinnacles of design and craftsmanship, can be found on the sun deck, along with sunbeds an vista views that will take your breath away.

VAVA II 96mt

The 96 metre (315ft) motor yacht VAVA II was built at the by Devonport Yachts shipyard in Plymouth, United Kingdom (Rebranded as Pendennis Plus in 2011). This is a magnificent boat in every way and she is the largest private superyacht to have been built and launched in the UK, England and Britain, if you do not count Royal yachts.

The Vava II by Pendennis Plus reportedly cost USD 160 million (£100 million) to build and took 200 craftsmen more than two years to complete. The new VAVA II motor yacht is owned by Swiss/Italian pharmaceutical tycoon and billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli and his wife, songwriter and former Miss UK Kirsty Roper. (Kirsty Bertarelli). The 96 meter yacht Vava II reportedly replaces the Bertarelli’s old 47-meter Feadship motor yacht called launched in 1996 called Vava. Measuring 96m (314.96ft) yacht VAVA II is the largest privately owned yacht ever to be built in the UK and is 33rd largest yacht in the world. She is also one of the most technologically advanced and stylish yachts in the world with exterior styling by Redman Whitely Dixon and interior design by Remi Tessier. Wally Better Place

Wally, the leading builder of innovative state-of-the-art sail and power yachts, has successfully launched the stunning Bugatti blue coloured 50-meter sailing yacht Better Place, the world’s largest sloop in carbon fiber developed on the lines of Tripp Design with the interiors by Wetzels Brown Partners, and uniquely classified RINA Green Star.

The Wally 50m touched the water after the owner’s wife smashed the champagne bottle on the keel bulb during a private ceremony in Ancona, Italy, where the yacht was built at WallyEurope facility using the most advanced carbon fiber construction technology.

Better Place is the first sailing yacht ever developed to comply with the environmental requirements of the RINA Green Star Design additional class notation, reserved to the ships which are designed, constructed and operated in such a way as to ensure maximum respect for the environment.

Big volumes yet light displacement and easy-sailing

The measured displacement of this mega sailer perfectly matches the theoretical data: only 250 tons, of which 88 of the ballast (fin and bulb keel) and 11.5 of the full rigging (mast, boom, PBO rigging). The Wally 50m resulted also in perfect trim.

“This result reflects WallyEurope’s excellent building quality carried out throughout all the construction, using the latest advanced composite technology” confirms Luca Bassani.

“The displacement and sail area ratio” predicts Luca Bassani “would provide for very high performance also in light airs, under 10 knots of wind. And the Wally lifting keel, increasing the draft from 4.6 to 6.5 meters, further improves Better Place’s performance, that are associated with the proven Wally easy-sailing system to produce a true Fast and Easy mega yacht. ”

Along with the in-furling boom, self-tacking jib, Magic Trim for the main sheet, captive winch for the jib sheet , and push button controls, the Wally easy-sailing features of the Wally 50m include the new staysail system, specifically developed by the R&D for this mega yacht: the furling staysail with no-torsion luff cable is always ready to be easily and quickly hoisted from its 8.6-m long dedicated locker in the forward deck.

The fast and simplified mega yacht uniquely combines performance with all the world cruiser characteristics offering plenty of storage and large living areas exceeding 300 sqm inside and 400 sqm outside.

Diesel electric propulsion & Green classification

The unique environmental characteristics of Better Place go even further than those required by the RINA Green Star Classification: she is the first sailing yacht equipped with the latest diesel electric propulsion technology, to increase power efficiency and reduce consumption, noise and vibration, as well as the ordinary maintenance of the propulsion system.

The 705kW power is produced by three generators, offering the opportunity to convert some hydraulic services into electrical ones thanks to the very powerful energy source, such as the inner stay furler, and the sheet tensioning devices.

Design and styling evolution

The overall design, interior and exterior, is astonishing and innovative compared to any other similar yacht.

The exterior and interiors are developed following the Wally concept of inside-outside living areas, whereas the interiors open onto the exteriors and vice versa. Introduced in yacht design by Wally in 1998 with the sailing cruiser Tiketitan, this concept has been constantly developed by the Monegasque brand pioneering also the glass deckhouses and the deck skylights.

The deckhouse encloses the 86-sqm open space with navigation, dining and lounge areas, and is characterised by full height windows giving the open-air feeling, a sort of sheltered cockpit enhancing the inside-outside living.

The genuinely Wally raised bulwark, firstly featured by Esense in 2006, offers unique protection and replaces the less safe and aesthetically appealing rail and stanchions, while leaving the hull lines pure.

The 62-sqm owners’ suite is aft with extraordinary visibility and brightness. The natural light floods in from four sides of the vast stateroom: through the portholes on both sides, and the mirrored glass aft and above. The owners’ private area has direct access to the 30-sqm Terrace-on-the-sea, that is another distinctive feature of the Wally inside-outside concept.

On deck and inside

The main deck is open and free of unnecessary interruptions, the saloon, dining room and wheelhouse forming one continuous, 86 sqm open space under the deckhouse.

The saloon with panoramic views seats 20 people as lounge opening onto the aft deck with further lounge space. There is an option for the central coffee table to be converted into an additional dining for eight people.

The dining area forward seats 10 people in dining layout and can be converted into an additional lounge area with XL sofa seating six comfortably .

The forward social cockpit, directly accessible from the interior dining and lounge areas, features table seats and sun beds for up to 20-people. Beyond this, the forward deck features a Jacuzzi, finished in black, which is positioned beneath deck level and is therefore invisible when not in use, an hidden winch “cockpit” for the halyards, two large tender garages, stay-sail locker, sail lockers, and the Wally submarine anchor locker.

The 100-sqm sundeck is accessed both by an outside staircase and by an inside open staircase, leading to steering and navigation, lounge, dining, sunbathing and barbeque areas,

A particularly innovative service feature is the open food lift connecting galley, interior dining area and sundeck– a ‘suitcase’ suspended in free space, connected by a single vertical track, to lift . The sundeck dining can be converted into a huge sunbed with the addition of an inflatable mattress, providing further comfort without stretching available storage capacity.

A hull side door is located amidships to starboard: when open, it converts into a swimming and tender boarding platform.

Maximising space and minimising storage requirements, a newly designed seating module has been developed for the deck in carbon and mesh with low profile cushions, for easy stowage, by the interior designers Wetzels Brown Partners, who designed all the deck furnishing.

The lower deck features the night and service areas accommodating the owners in the aft suite and up to ten guests in four double staterooms, and ten crew in five double cabins. All cabins have en-suites.

The crew and service quarter is forward with galley, laundry and crew mess.

The two engine rooms are amidships.

The interior design combines carbon look both gloss and satin, satin white lacquered oak, grey leather and colour matched upholstery to create a relaxed feeling. Colour-changing LED lights are used throughout the yacht and can be adjusted in order to change the atmosphere, reflecting the interior design concept to have soft and neutral tones that are coloured by the lights. The cabins are linked by a light installation, running along the spine of the yacht.

Feadship 78,5 mt Hampshire II

Taking place on Saturday 14th of April, Feadship has officially announced the successful launch of the 78.5m custom motor yacht Hampshire II; the latest scion of the Feadship fleet and an adventurous addition to the water.

Hampshire II was built for an experienced Feadship owner with a great love of action and sports; inherited in design features such as the foredeck ball court or the 25m high crow’s mast.

During her launch ceremony at the Feadship Kaag yard, Feadship director Dick van Lent paid tribute to the owner of Hampshire II. “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to create such a unique vessel for such a passionate sailor. As an experienced Feadship owner, he really appreciates the qualities of a Feadship and the fun of being closely involved in the design and construction process.”

“This is exactly the sort of client we love to work with, and Hampshire II is exactly the kind of superyacht that Feadship owners deserve. She is built around every conceivable sporting activity while also offering exceptional facilities for those who like to take things a little easier. Many of his friends and family were involved in the various milestones of the build, and now they are all set to reap the rewards.”

Positive proof of this statement was seen in the hours leading up to the launch ceremony as various teams representing the owner’s guests and personnel from the yard played football on the foredeck of Hampshire II. The yacht’s helicopter landing platform, nicely finished in teak, can be transformed into a playing field for basketball, tennis, baseball, badminton… and football. A giant net can also be placed around the deck to ensure care-free gaming.

This is just one of many unusual but alluring features onboard Hampshire II, the split-level design of which maximises the volume and outdoor space. On the sundeck, for instance, a crow’s nest placed atop the mast is reached by a two-person elevator and offers panoramic views high above the water. For the truly adventurous, a zip wire is connected to the mast which her owners can tie a rope and slide at a breathtaking speed from the crows nest down to the water.

The contemporary overall design by Redman Whiteley Dixon and Feadship incorporates two amazing beach-clubs and balconies on either side which act as idyllic seating terraces for the owners.

While her exterior profile is modern, Hampshire II’s interior is a classic affair which highlights a typical English style bar on the bridge deck in place of the traditional lounge. Edmiston attracted the buyer to the project, managed the construction and will be overseeing the yacht's future.

Alloy Yachts 47mt Loretta Anne

Alloy Yachts has launched its largest motor yacht yet, the 47 metre Loretta Anne, previously known as hull number AY43.

Loretta Anne is the latest in a number of Alloy-built superyachts to be created by the successful design duo of Dubois Naval Architects and Donald Starkey. She shares some common characteristics with her sisters, although her raised pilothouse has vertical windows, and her additional 7 metres of length fits elegantly into a well-proportioned profile.

The spacious interior offers some modifications, like the presence of a large galley on the main deck. The owner’s suite is forward in the main deck, while three double cabins accommodate guests on the lower deck. A fourth convertible cabin is fitted out as a gymnasium.

Lloyd’s classed, Loretta Anne is powered by twin 1,600hp Caterpillar C-32 engines, and she’s fully equipped with twin Caterpillar generators, and ABT thrusters and stabilisers.

The successor of two other Alloy motor yachts for a repeat client, Loretta Anne will be delivered this year. Her final destination will be the Florida/Bahamas area where her limited draught of 2.21m will give her much scope for cruising.

Codecasa 65 Mt. Family Day

With a name like Family Day, this 65 metre addition to the Codecasa fleet, with an interior by Della Role Design, brings to mind an image of coziness, warmth and tradition. Yet, with her sleek and modern exterior, that is both sportive and contemporary, an interesting contrast is created that instantly attracts one's attention. With smooth exterior lines, Family Day boasts a curvy look, being a modern vessel that shows off speed and comfort without being too sharp or minimalistic.

Upon boarding, an instant sense of spaciousness becomes apparent, with the aft main deck being a large example of what Family Day has to offer. With a number of sunbeds available alongside a big sofa and two coffee tables, accompanied by a collection of chairs and sofa's, an appropriate setting is offered for lounging, enjoying the company of up to 14 guests that can be comfortably accommodated onboard.

The sense of space is skillfully continued throughout the design of the main saloon. With both the interior and al fresco dining areas being situated on the upper deck, this sizeable main saloon is all about comfort and style in a soothing and intimate setting.

This area is loosely separated in two segments, the aft being a slightly more formal space for lounging and socializing. With floors, walls and fixed cabinets executed in warm, dark lacquered wood, combined with light classical furnishings set in a perfectly symmetrical composition, the aft area in the main saloon offers a classic and slightly African-colonial atmosphere, the latter being largely a result of the artworks present. The fore area, separated by two low cabinets, is equally spacious yet lighter and more modern, with contemporary furnishing for both the port side lounging area and the game area situated opposite.

A grand, circular central staircase connects the main deck with the lower and upper deck guest areas. Upstairs the main formal dining area can be found, with a centrally placed circular dining table surrounded by classic dining chairs covered in a gentle cream coloured upholstery.

Adjacent to the dining table, two sets of lavish chairs have been placed on either side of the large glass sliding doors leading to the upper aft deck area. Here, a large al fresco dining table can be found, perfectly private yet with magnificent surrounding views. Surrounded by two structural aft sofas, accompanied by tables and chairs, the total image of the upper deck area is that of a stylish and comfortable surrounding that has a main focus on supplying guests onboard with a suitable, luxurious and private setting for ample breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

The sundeck perfectly offers what these areas are supposed to be about, namely privacy, panorama views, comfort, sun and shade. With ample sun loungers, a semicircular central bar area, gym, barbecue and the central elevator connecting all fours decks for optimal comfort and ease, the sun deck is a lush hideaway outside. Additionally, a large second sun area can be found on the forward upper deck, where a big cockpit, fitted with sofas and sunbeds, has been designed around Family Day's big whirlpool.

Large companies require appropriate accommodation, and with a total of seven guest cabins, including the Owner's suite, Family Day supplies just that.

The grand Owner's quarters offer a large, full beam stateroom with both an office and sitting area, his and hers washrooms separated by a centrally placed Jacuzzi, large separate Owner's study and a big walk in closet.

Two doubles and two twins can be found below decks, where the twins offer an additional two pullmans, while two VIP cabins and the Owner's quarters can be found on the main deck. Each cabin has been designed in the vessel's signature style, with dark, lacquered woods, light leather and fabrics and a contemporary styling perfectly frame all available amenities. Remarkably, a spacious en suite bathroom with bathtub can be found in each of the guest cabins, clearly making no distinction between guests onboard in that respect.

Diamonds Are Forever Benetti 61 mt

Benetti has launched the 61 metre Diamonds Are Forever at the state-of-the-art Benetti shipyard in Livorno. Hull FB253 is built for a highly experienced owner who always names his yachts after James Bond movies.

This sophisticated Benetti superyacht holds all of the elegant and characteristic design elements of a Benetti but with a personalised signature from her owner.
Mr. John Staluppi, an avid fan of the inimitable James Bond saga, joined the crew and builders of this superyacht to christen Diamonds Are Forever under the Tuscany sun.

The ceremony began with speeches and presentations by Benetti’s CEO Vincenzo Poerio, Chairman Paolo Vitelli and head of project management Nicola Nicolai, followed by a rendition of the James Bond theme tune and an acrobatic enactment of a daring Bond fight scene; complete with Aston Martin and superyacht.

Her elegant external lines are based on the expert Benetti naval architecture and engineering which produce a balanced combination of traditional design elements and modern innovative style solutions that distinguish the long established and respected Italian shipyard throughout the world.

Her concept and layout have been meticulously designed crafted as her spacious interior comprises of two panoramic master suites and four guest staterooms, a guest elevator to all decks, a full beam sky lounge and vast open and shaded spaces.

A design element of particular note is the additional top deck, located above the sun deck, which is also served by the central elevator. The aft part of the sun-deck also allows easy access to touch and go helicopter operations.

Diamonds Are Forever is capable of accommodating up to 12 guests in 6 cabins, consisting of 4 cabins on the lower deck, a split level VIP suite come 2nd Owners suite at the front of the main deck and the master Owners suite forward on the upper deck, both with an 180 degree sea view and Evan K Marshall interior throughout.

After receiving the traditional blessings and feted with champagne, the yacht is now set for her maiden charter voyage in December and will be available in the Caribbean for the coming season and the Mediterranean later on in 2012.

The superyacht's brief was for a beautiful, performance sailing yacht that combined family adventures with regatta-style performance. It is very easy to imagine oneself lounging about on one of the various exterior seating arrangements, varying from large fixed sunbeds offering full 360 degrees vistas to the more secluded cockpit offering ample relaxing sofas and, of course, a perfect setting for al fresco dining.
Bathing in natural light, the main saloon area spacious yet cozy, with large windows assuring guests with remarkable views. Starboard, a comfortable sitting area offers a big L-shaped sofa and three intelligently customized Barcelona chairs. Delicate railings have been applied to the back side, offering support for those walking by or standing to enjoy the view. Rossi Navi Yachts 70 mt Numptia

Italian shipyard Rossi Navi Yachts recently launched their latest project, the fully custom 70 metres superyacht Numptia. Working with an exacting brief, and applying only top levels of workmanship in all facets of this exciting new venture, all professionals working on this vessel were handpicked and experts in their respective fields. As a result, Numptia has turned out to be spectacular in every way, from the unconventional layout to her uniquely crafted designs and top notch engineering.

Moving through all areas onboard, one cannot help but simply relish the attention in detail that has gone into every nook and corner, without losing sight of the big picture. A big picture that is very much pleasing to the eye, with an overall atmosphere exuding a personality that transcends mere description in simple terms of style. Being not just modern, contemporary of classically influenced, a tastefully balanced mixture has been concocted that is of a timeless elegance and finesse. Almost like a modern-day temple of refined luxury, Numptia's style is cohesive enough to feel delicately balanced yet shows enough variation to invite ones eye to wander and take in all pleasures and comforts she has to offer.

The concept of this vessel, created by Tommaso Spadolini, was based upon the notion that a perfect fit to the needs of her experienced owner and his family was to be realised, there for a complete reassessment of various aspects of yacht building was made in order to craft the perfect yachting experience. On top of that, the requirement for good service on each of her five decks proved to be crucial in Numptia's development. For instance, the owner placed great emphasis on where meals are enjoyed, so each on deck a fully equipped pantry can be found, assuring perfect service and practicality.

Obviously, excellence starts at the base so designing a hull, aiming to nail the right shape that perfectly combines looks, distribution of volume and maximum performance, was key. Her exterior shape echoes a timeless elegance, which is also spotlessly translated in the overall interior design, where dashes of delightful eccentricity turn out to be promising addition to a pleasant life at sea.

Designer Achille Salvagni, introduced to the owner by Tommaso Spadolini, who designed the yacht's exterior, GA and outdoor furniture, took on the extensive task of creating Numptia's interiors. By creating an unexpected and unorthodox design, which inherently perfectly fits the concept of redefining onboard life according to the owner's wishes, he aimed to realise a harmonious and comfortable environment. With a pure design scheme and the application of a closely matched colour palette, finished with subtle, unobtrusive lighting, a warm and welcoming atmosphere was created. By using ample natural materials, such as playfully applied contrasting woods and natural stones, Salvagni created a new personality for each deck yet managed to place every element in a greater context, assuring a skillfully crafted, stylish and cohesive whole. With intimacy and grandeur combined, a mesmerizing sense of style was created that celebrates, almost worships, good taste and luxury in a rich yet subtle manner.

Numptia's main deck saloon offers luxurious views out to sea, courtesy of full floor to ceiling windows. A central bar area, boasting a slight nightclub feel, separates the main saloon from the dining area which is adjacent to a fully equipped, professional galley.

Notably, the gorgeous bas-relief dining room wall decoration sets an exquisite tone, softly breathing images of long forgotten civilizations into present times. This seems to be an important element of the vessel's interiors, where various relic-like objects seem to gently refer to a variety of historical periods, sometimes literally but also merely, and even more strongly, by association.

On the main deck forward, the sumptuous full beam owners quarters can be found, consisting of a study, reading area, central bedroom and television area. Additionally, a grand bathroom with marvelous central bathtub and a shower area, plus his and hers dressing rooms, can be found here.Aft from the spacious bridge area, with a starboard radio room and a port side guest sitting area, a sizeable VIP cabin is located. Filled with dramatic, large lounging beds, one inevitably can enjoy many films on the cabins 103 inch cinema-style TV. The library area, including fireplace, and aft deck al-fresco dining area complete the full scope of what the bridge deck has to offer.

The existence of an actual spa deck once again aptly shows how unique Numptia really is. With a sauna, steam room and fully equipped gym area, complimented by a fully fitted outdoor area with comfortable sunbeds, one can enjoy some pleasant workouts. After that, the massage or beauty room might very well be suitable options for some time spent in utter relaxation. Breakfast, light lunches and even barbecues can be enjoyed outside on the spa deck as well, for the outside forward area has been set up with a bar and barbecue.

The sun deck it utterly dedicated to open-air enjoyment. With a central pool, touch-and-go helicopter landing area, which notably double functions as a second sun deck or party deck including disco-lights, one can do anything, but will undoubtedly enjoy everything, onboard the magnificent decks of Numptia.

Smeralda 77m by Hanseatic Marine

The 77m superyacht Smeralda by Hanseatic Marine and Espen Oeino is under construction and now nearing completion at Hanseatic Marine in Australia, with delivery scheduled for in spring 2012. Motor yacht Smeralda is the third and most advanced superyacht in the ground-breaking Silver Series of motor yachts designed by Espen Oeino. She is expected to deliver impressive speed and performance as a long range cruising yacht.
With the distinctive hull lines and much admired super-sleek profile of her predecessors, Smeralda is the result of further design development by the same skilled team behind the successful Silver Series. She boasts a variety of enhanced features, ranging from her technical specification to her deck layout, guest areas and interior décor.
Smeralda will deliver impressive speed and performance as a long range cruising yacht, capable of covering 4,500 nautical miles at an average 18 knots. Equipped with more powerful twin MTU main engines, Smeralda ’s top speed is anticipated to reach close to 30 knots, while retaining the extraordinary fuel efficient credentials which are intrinsic to the Silver Series concept.
Newly conceived deck spaces provide multiple areas across several levels to optimise outdoor living and entertaining, including a larger sun deck with glass-fronted jacuzzi, extensive fitted sunpads and shaded dining. Aft on the main deck, a spectacular lounging area has been created in addition to a full-size bar and a new indoor-outdoor dining area with wraparound sliding glass doors. An expanded ‘beach club’ can be found at sea level and a “touch and go” helipad is located on the foredeck.

Picchiotti Galileo G

Designed by Philippe Briand, exclusively built by Picchiotti and brought to the market by Vitruvius Yachts Ltd., the Vitruvius Yachts are superyachts ranging from 44 to 73 metres. The Galileo G(55m) is the second model in this series produced by Picchiotti, the Perini Navi brand dedicated to motor yachts. On Saturday I was invited on-board this magnificent vessel for some of the first sea trials.

On board I had a chat with designer Philippe Briand, who explained that the Vitruvius series derives its name from the Roman architect Vitruvius Pollio, the first to describe the perfect proportions in architecture. Leonardo Da Vinci based his works and drawings on Pollio’s first scriptures and paid homage to him in his drawing of The Vitruvian Man. The Galileo G is a perfect example of these characteristic proportions, particularly due to its superstructure-to-hull ratio. Philippe used his extensive experience in designed sailing yachts, to come up with a highly efficient motoryacht.
Galileo G, like her sister the 50 metre Exuma, is an explorer, designed to meet its owner’s demands that she would be equipped “to go everywhere”, including the Northwest Passage, the route between the islands of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago where the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean meet. This Vitrivius was constructed in order with the guidelines for Ice Class 1B, meeting the demands for crossing the Northwest Passage.

The Galileo G was designed for 'Winterization,' a denomination that is obligatory for operating and navigating in geographical zones characterized by very low temperatures. Much of the yacht's equipment has been made in order to function at low temperaturs, and and made to prevent freezing. A good example is her clean flush foredeck, which prevents water being trapped, and consequent ice built-up. Heated winches and gaskets prevent further ice formation.

Galileo G is fitted with an Ice Belt, positioned around the waterline, especially at the stern, centre and bow, at 400mm above the waterline at full load and at 500mm under the water line at light load. This belt must be able to carry loads of up to 55t/m². Above all, the steel used in the construction is thicker (25-30% above the norm), making the structure resistant to possible collisions with floating ice.

During the presentation on Saturday, Burak Akgul, manager of the Perini Istanbul-Yildiz shipyard, pointed out that the yacht was in fact not designed to break ice, but rather be able to navigate in areas where there is the possibility of crossing areas that contain 40 cm of multiyear ice. Multiyear ice has distinct properties that distinguish it from first-year ice, based on processes that occur during the summer melt. Multiyear ice for example contains more air pockets than first-year ice.
To detect ice, Galileo G is equipped with a retractable telescopic ice-detection sonar connected to a 3D monitor in the wheelhouse. This will detect submerged and semi-submerged obstacles along the course, at a distance up to 1km.
Reinforcements on board Galileo G are strong enough to withstand high loads were used not just in the Ice Belt, but also in all of the appendages that protrude from the hull under the waterline: The rudders are fitted with ice knives, propeller blades are made out of Nibral: Nickel-Bronze-Aluminum, and her stabilizers have reinforced beams and attachment areas.
Galileo G has three tenders: one 9.5m Hurricane Zodiac tender with an aluminum hull and reinforced tubes, one 6.3m Smuggler tender, and one 4.2m rescue tender. Two Lasers and four kayaks are also on-board. The yacht’s life raft system is heated, to ensure the ability to deploy the life rafts even in freezing conditions.
One of the yachts most dominantly present features, her V-Sat Marine Antenna Seatel Cobhan 9797, has a dome diameter of 3,65m, and holds a 2,4 metre satellite dish. This ensures for hi-speed broadband internet connections on board.
Galileo G’s construction time was approximately 40 months. The contract was signed in April 2008, some 8 months after the her predecessor Exuma was signed. The third unit in the Vitruvius range, a 73 metre, is currently in built at the Perini Istanbul-Yildiz shipyard in Turkey, and will be transported to Italy early 2012 to be completed.Unfortunately photos of the yacht’s interior are not being released for now, but we can reveal that she has a beautiful Mahogany and Wengé interior, adorned with the owners personal marine life photographs.

Galileo G will be presented to the public late September at the Monaco Yacht Show.

Codecasa 42 Vintage

The well known Italian shipayard Codecasa have launched the first motor yacht Hull F73 from their newest CODECASA 42m VINTAGE yacht series on the 30th June, 2011. The Hull F73 motor yacht Codecasa 42 Vintage offers luxury accommodation to either private owners or charter guests in one Owner’s suite, two double cabins and two twin cabins, sleeping a total of 10 guest. Codecasa 42-metre Vintage superyacht, powered by two Caterpillar 3512C (1650Hp at 1800rpm), reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots and has a range of 4,000 nautical miles at a comfortable speed of 11 knots.

As a matter of fact, the new Codecasa 42 Vintage series yacht project of the historical Shipyard of Viareggio, follows known paths to mark out new roads and turns towards the past, not with the melancholic attempt to celebrate something that is lost, but rather, with the purpose of recovering a timeless style and to find in it the push to jump into the future.

From a past age, not too far away, this new Codecasa 42m Vintage superyacht (hull F73) is taking her inspiration for her plain and traditional lines, that recall the main features of vessels that have made the history of the yachting, such as Moratti family’s mythic “Paraggina” or the equally legendary “Marlin”, owned by the Kennedys. And like these ones, perhaps, also this boat has the ambition to be one day recognized by her captivating silhouette and pointed out as the yacht that has marked the beginning of a new era in the shipbuilding and opened new boundaries in the luxury.As a reply to the slender profiles and sleek lines that have characterized (or rather standardized) the yachts of the last generation, finally on the horizon looms a boat with outlines that are temptingly firm, clean and compact. A boat that does not attack the sea but rather harmoniously combines with it.

All over on board of the new Codecasa 42 the interiors are dominated by light and by the white colors of marbles for pavements and bathrooms, but also of the lacquered wood used for wardrobes and panellings. Heesen Yachts Aurelia

Aurelia is an impressively styled superyacht which draws from an entire era of racing; using a paint scheme inspired by Gulf Racing colours, with a number 10 (relating to her hull number) on her quarters.

This exterior style, created by Dobroserdov Design, was also repeated on the decal of the 14’ Castoldi tender to match the owner’s true passion for sport and racing cars.

But it’s not just Aurelia’s exterior which has been designed to mirror the owner’s passion for racing: the name that she bares is a tribute to the first ever GT Lancia Aurelia. Her racing inspired theme is also carried out throughout her Bannenberg & Rowell designed interior, naming all of the cabins after racing car designers – Bertone (orange Lamborghini), Pininfarina (red Ferrari) and Zagato (green Aston Martin).

“We gave it a pretty low level streamlined style, slightly masculine… inspired by the Dunhill cigarette lighter aesthetic.” Explains Simon Rowell from Bannenberg & Rowell.

Aurelia’s main salon has been divided in two; consisting of a dining area with a large rounded table and a lounge space with an L-shaped sofa, two designer armchairs and an ingenious fire place that uses Bio-Ethanol.

Beside the distinctive interior, Aurelia is also an exceptionally comfortable yacht onboard, especially when at anchor, enhanced only by a pair of Seakeeper gyro stabilizers that are incredibly efficient under all conditions and require no through-hull fittings.

While the other 37m vessels sport five cabins, the Owner of Aurelia wanted to offer more comfort to his guests and more space for his crew, so, working with Heesen, a guest cabin was designated for the captain and more room for the laundry area was made.

Aurelia can accommodate eight guests in four cabins. The master suite is traditionally located forward on the main deck and the three double guests cabins – all with en suite – are positioned on the lower deck.

Heesen Yachts Satori

Heesen Yachts had announced the delivery of superyacht Satori, the first in the new 50 metre semi-displacement class after sea trials in the North Sea. With a Gross Tonnage of 499 GT and a top speed of 24 knots she is among the world’s fastest 50 metre yachts.

It's always exciting when new standards are being set in the superyacht industry. On February 25 of this year, Heesen Yachts did just that by launching YN 15250, named Satori. With sleek lines and at 50 metres, she is one of the world's fastest vessels of this size, impressively reaching top speeds of up to 24 knots.

With the Oss, the Netherlands-based shipyard being more than experienced within the scope of 44-47 metre vessels, after launching an impressive seventeen superyachts within this range, this solid base of knowledge was used to develop a new pinnacle for the industry. Being the first in a collection of semi-custom superyachts, Satori paves the way for exciting new ventures in yachting in an eloquently balanced manner.

Combining top speed with highly economical fuel burn, Satori successfully proves eco-friendly design can go hand in hand with top performance, as she currently is the most efficient 50 metres vessel on the market. On top of that, Heesen’s formula of a widely appealing design and cost effectiveness proves to be indispensible in developing a semi-custom superyacht.

Deservedly so, her christening took place during this year's Monaco Grand Prix. By applying to be a member of Monaco's “La Belle Classe Superyacht”-certification, Satori promised to be a swift vessel, yet remaining gentle to her surroundings. This delicate balance is reflected in the vessel's name, which in Zen Buddhism refers to a sudden enlightenment being the first step to Nirvana.

With her clean lines designed by Omega Architects' Frank Laupman, her owner appointed award-winning French designer Rémi Tessier to take on her interior design. His design philosophy might be best described by Tessier himself, with luxury being an “art of providing detail without ostentation” and by “exulting the essential”. As design is in the details, Satori's interior design might seem elementary at first glance but one will inevitably dwell upon the richness in details and refinement that this vessel has to offer. Upon entering the main saloon one is immediately struck by an overall sense of tranquillity.

This serene, crystal clear atmosphere greatly enhances once one gets a chance to truly appreciate the attention of detail that has been put into this design. Satori’s well balanced elegance is immediately illustrated by the main saloon dining table. The saloon being divided into three main areas, the table can be adjusted in height to accommodate several styles of dining, which subsequently instantly changes the entire dynamic of the space. Whether set high, for more formal dining, or lowered for a more informal, lounging style of socializing, this multifunctional design points out the emphasis on balance, elegance and finesse in the vessel's design. This is a design that proves richness in detail does not necessarily results in abundance.

With an emphasis on symmetry, upon entering the main saloon from the aft deck, a semi-circular lounging sofa can be found. Being able to rotate around the central table for a full 360 degrees, either as a whole or divided into two equally sized parts, this again proves the intelligence that has been put into the design. Separated from this lounging space by a bar, the surface of which double functions as part of the lighting scheme, the central sitting area can be found. Three sleek sofas, on large placed opposite two smaller pieces, form the main ingredients for the main lounge more formal central lounge area.

With a grand master suite on the main deck and four guest cabins on the lower deck, a total of ten guests can be accommodated onboard. The lower deck guest cabins are divided into two full beam VIP cabins and two twins. The design of all cabins, and all other areas, is based on a colour palette that is all about tranquillity and balance. Consisting of whites, greys and the natural deep dark browns of lacquered wood, this palette perfectly is complimented by flowing natural light and just the right amount of reflective surfaces. One could say it takes some time to fully appreciate Satori's interior spaces, but the quality is undeniable. This design takes attention for detail to a whole different level.

Outside, guests are able to enjoy four different areas to spend time dining, lounging or simply relaxing. These social areas consist of a split-level sun deck with custom Jacuzzi, terrace and bar, a forward cockpit with U-shaped sofa and adjacent large sunbathing area, the upper aft deck dining area and the aft deck cockpit.

77m Feadship TANGO

Royal Van Lent launched motor yacht Tango, hull #802, a giant 77.70-metre Feadship on Saturday 26 March 2011 at the Royal Van Lent yard. The 77.7m Feadship Tango has a very characteristic exterior styling, including a daring combination of a white hull with a metallic grey and blue superstructure.

Feadship Koninklijke De Vries also launched the 81m Motor Yacht AIR at their Aalsmeer shipyard in Holland on the same day. The 81-metre Air Yacht instantly becomes the largest Feadship available for charter in the world as well as being the largest yacht built by the De Vries Aalsmeer yard to date.

Both the new Feadships are full-custom superyachts built for owners with very distinctive tastes. “It is interesting to note that while other major superyacht yards are increasingly focusing on semi-custom series yachts, Feadship continues to lead the way in bespoke and entirely unique projects,” comments Francis Vermeer, head of marketing at Feadship.

“Moreover, both Feadship yards have a very healthy portfolio for the coming years with ten superyachts currently under construction ranging from 45 metres up to the latest Royal Van Lent order of 101.50 metres in length.

The historic day of launches began with a confidential project at Royal Van Lent. “We are always delighted to show the world our new yachts, and therefore are pleased that we are allowed to disclose some information about this exceptional yacht,” says Vermeer.

Hull #802, now known as yacht Tango is a textbook example of the many facets involved in a custom yacht-building project. An excellent team spirit is essential and the Royal Van Lent yard worked seamlessly with Eidsgaard Design, Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects and Edmiston & Company. The result is an exceptionally creative and innovative yacht in terms of both the exterior profile and the interior styling and layout. The yacht has a contemporary two-tone exterior: Her muscular looks are combined with signature lines that bring additional elegance to the profile.

Special features of the interior of Feadship superyacht Tango include a full beam main lounge, the location of guest accommodation on the main deck, plus a private owners’ deck. A contra flow swimming pool and a spacious sun deck with outdoor cinema are among the superlative al fresco facilities.

The Tango Yacht also pushes the window in terms of her engineering. Propelled by four engines, the yacht is capable of reaching some 21 knots. Extensive model tests and CFD program development were required to achieve this performance.

ISA 50mt Liberty

On Saturday, March 19, ISA (International Shipyards Ancona) launched the 50 metre (164ft) superyacht Liberty, the first in a series of three new 50 metre yachts currently under construction at the Italian yard. The three yachts in the 50 metre series share the same technical platform but differ in their superstructure and transom design.


Architect Andrea Vallicelli, in collaboration with ISA's in-house naval architects, designed Liberty to be a sophisticated displacement yacht. Huge volumes, great performance and low consumption are the main features of this excellent platform. Liberty's elegant exterior lines are magnified by the contrast between her metallic dark grey hull and the white superstructure.


The interior design is by Stefania Biondo dalla Casapiccola, BDC Interior Design & Décor. Twelve guests are accommodated between a master suite on the main deck, four guest cabins on the lower deck and a VIP cabin on the upper deck. The yacht accommodates 10 crew.


The yacht is powered by two MTU 12V4000 with a max power of 1,850kW at 2,000rpm. She can reach 16.8 knots at maximum speed. A pair of Quantum Zero Speed stabilizers guarantees a smooth navigation in the most severe conditions and a comfortable stay at anchor.
